Croyde self catering accommodation

Croyde self catering accommodation

The great thing about staying in self catering accommodation is that you are in control of your holiday. All Holidays In Croyde properties come with stylish but functional kitchens that are packed with utensils and appliances, from dishwashers and large fridge freezers to luxury extras like wine coolers.

This gives you all the freedom and flexibility to call the shots and is particularly welcome when you have a family to feed and a host of tastes to cater for (we didn’t say it would be fun!…).

It’s always good to know where the next set of self catering supplies is coming from, as well as having a few catered eating options to call on should the chef get tired of cooking for the hoards!

Buying in

The village of Croyde has a village shop which stocks most of the basics. However, nearby Braunton and Ilfracombe both have Tesco and Coop supermarkets along with a good selection of independent shops selling local produce and all the essentials you may need. There is also a Sainsburys in Barnstaple.

In Braunton you can find good food and drink including local products, from cider to clotted cream, in Devon Made and Cawthornes. If you are planning on a spot of al fresco dining, then Home Hardware is a great place for snapping up your BBQ essentials.

Eating Out

Croyde has a great selection of dining options from good pub grub to gourmet food with a sense of fun:

  • The Thatch is famed as a post-surf watering hole. With a friendly atmosphere it offers a full menu and daily specials, plus a good selection of local ales and wine.
  • The Manor Inn has a good outside space and is very kid friendly. It’s menu includes everything from snacks and sandwiches to locally produced meat and fish dishes
  • Blue Groove is a stylish restaurant, intimate but fun, that offers good food with a gourmet twist. Its menu includes local produce as well as dishes that have more of an international flavor.

Some examples are:

Further afield, in Braunton you can find Squires, an award winning Fish and Chip shop and restaurant, The George offering homemade menus catering for breakfast, lunch and dinner and great Italian food at The Riverside.

Ilfracombe also offers a range of eating options, from simple fish and chips by the harbour (watch out for the seagulls!) to The Quay, the stylish restaurant owned by the artist Damien Hirst.

A few miles further up the road is Barnstaple, the region’s capital. This market town has a range of pubs and restaurants to suit all tastes.

Local shops

For those self catering in Croyde, there is a small village shop to buy basic groceries but a 5 minute trip to Braunton offers a wider choice from Cawthornes or Tescos.

Devon Made in the village of Braunton offers locally produced food and drink as well as some really nice gift ideas.

Home Hardware in Braunton sells most thing you will need for a self catering Croyde holiday, including BBQ essentials for down on the beach.

If you don’t fancy cooking at your self catering accommodation, you can choose to eat out in Braunton, then The George pub offers a Thai menu, At One offers a Tapas bar, The Corner Bistro offers some beautiful, traditional cooking and the Riverside offers Italian.

A 9 mile drive to Barnstaple will give you the choice of two Tescos stores and a Sainsbury’s. Barnstaple also has a lively town centre and indoor market where local produce is sold.

The town of Bideford is further to drive but has a Morrisons and Asda. Bideford is a lovelt place to visit for a day out though and also has some great family attractions.
